Jayhawk JumpStart

JumpStart is a freshman transition program that provides five full days of activities, workshops, and networking to help students adjust to college and prepare for their first day at KU.

What to expect?

  • Get settled in your residence hall before other students move in.

    • Students living on campus will move in on August 18th, 2023 and check-in for to start JumpStart at 3:00pm.

    • Students not living on campus will need to book accommodation with their leasing agent to accommodate an early move-in 

  • Students will meet their peers, faculty, and support staff, get comfortable with learning, visit campus resources, and connect with the Hawk Link Success Team to help start their first year strong!

    • JumpStart Student leaders will lead students through the week, answer questions, and make sure they find their place.

  • Students will participate in daily required programming for the full five days and a half day on the last day.

    • Programming is a mix of interactive experiences and presentations reflective of the on-campus experience and build on learning skills for the first day of classes.

How to sign up? 

  • Eligible JumpStart students have received an invitation via their KU email to apply to the program for the Fall 2024 JumpStart Program. 

    • Invited students are asked to RSVP by July 12th to save their seat in the program.

  • Students in Band, ROTC, or Recruitment are ineligible to participate in JumpStart, and students attending International Orientation are also ineligible to participate in JumpStart.

The Jayhawk JumpStart program is open to any first-time, full-time, domestic undergraduate students that meet both of these criteria as determined by Enrollment Management:

  • First- Generation College Students: Neither parent nor guardian has completed a four-year degree 
  • Pell-Eligible and Pell-Range Students

Students will move-in Sunday, August 18, 2023, start will be determined by housing and details will be sent out to students invited.

Students will move in and be ready for check-in and required programming that starts at 3:00pm on August 18th. 

Families will be able to attend family specific events beginning at 3:30pm.  

No. Students living on campus will move into their fall housing assignments.

Students not living on campus will need to make arrangements with their housing providers to accommodate an early move in and any transportation needs will be the responsibility of the student.

No. As a participant in JumpStart, all cost for meals are covered during the planned program meals (starting the evening of August 18th and ending on August 23rd at lunch).

Mrs. E's is the dining location we use. This includes students living off campus and in the scholarship halls.

Students with campus meal plans will not be required to use their meal plans during JumpStart.  

Parents/families will be able to attend family specific programming on Sunday, August 18, 2023, beginning at 3:30pm, including a send-off dinner for students and their parents/families.
